We took the Lotus train from Hanoi to Dong Hoi in mid-June. This is an excellent train ride, a very scenic and relaxing overnight trip. The Lotus operation is new, and a great way to book these trains.

The price is very reasonable, even though you are paying for a premium product relative to the normal cars on this train. The upgrade is worth it, especially if you are more accustomed to western travel standards. The Lotus cars are very nice, newly refinished I believe. Similar standard to what I remember on the overnight trains in Europe.

You may read other questionable reviews of this train (not Lotus) in general, messy bathrooms etc. If you book with Lotus you will get the upgraded cars and will not have a problem. Cleanliness in the cabin and restrooms was fine. Aircon worked great as well, and the cabin while cozy was comfortable for two adults and two teens.

We were literally a last minute booking and I found the staff at Lotus to be exceptionally accomodating and service-oriented.
